About New Lynn

New Lynn is located towards the west of the Auckland urban area, 10 kilometres to the southwest of the Auckland city centre. Over recent years, Auckland Council has been working on transforming New Lynn into a vibrant metropolitan centre. The urban plan says New Lynn will, by 2030, be a unique, sustainable, urban place centred on a world-class transit interchange capable of attracting and maintaining a population of 20,000 residents and 14,000 workers. The completion of New Lynn's world-class transport interchange in September 2010 - the country's largest-ever public transport infrastructure investment - was the first step in the area's long-awaited regeneration project. There are now many new developments in the area, and the business district and New Lynn Mall contain many shops, restaurants, cafes and local businesses.

Although the early houses in New Lynn were made of locally produced brick, most older houses are of weatherboard and corrugated iron, and were originally on large sections. Many of these sections have since been subdivided, with modern brick and tile houses added. High-density housing is predominantly near the railway line, with the start of a trend towards high rise apartments being built in the town centre. New Lynn is also home to one of Auckland’s best golf courses: Titirangi Golf Course and has easy access to the Waitakere Ranges and West Coast Beaches.
