About Mt Albert

Mt Albert is a south-western suburb of Auckland, about seven kilometres from the CBD. Closeby or adjoining suburbs include Sandringham, Balmoral, St Lukes, Mt Eden and Morningside.

The peak, in parkland at the southern end of the suburb, is 135 metres in height, and is one of the many extinct cones which dot the city of Auckland, all of which are part of the Auckland volcanic field.

Mt Albert is popular with families from all backgrounds and of all generations. There are many parks and playgrounds around the suburb and community centre in the historic Ferndale House. It is also home to the Alberton Museum, the Mt Albert War Memorial and the Mt Albert Research Centre, which contains the Auckland Centre of Plant and Food Research as well as other Crown Research Institutions.

The main stretch of Mt Albert contains select shops and dining opportunities as well as dairies and takeaways. There are a range of schools in the area and easy access by public transport on bus or by train to the CBD.
